S1 section 2.1

Prior knowledge required: none.

We are learning to: classify data.
Key facts:
Quantitative variables are given as numbers
Qualitative variables are not numbers, they're often worded responses.

S1 section 2.2

Prior knowledge required: none.

We are learning to: classify data.
Key facts:
Quantitative data may be continuous or discrete.
When a variable may take any value in a given range it is continuous data. It's often a measurement.
When a variable may only take specific values within a range it is a discrete variable. Often these are integers and the variable is counted.

S1 section 2.3

Prior knowledge required: you will have some understanding of averages and grouped data from GCSE.

We are learning to: use grouped frequency tables to gather large data sets of discrete data.
Key facts:
The 'total' or the number of items with a particular value is called the frequency.
You can tabulate frequencies into a frequency table.
